seven of my favourite edmonton + area wedding venues

One of the amazing perks of photographing and filming so many weddings is the opportunity to see so many different venues, natural beauty, fabulous architecture and truly magical spaces. I've put together a list of some of my favourite wedding venues in and around Edmonton. I tried to keep this list pretty close to home for anyone looking to stay nearby and because there are so many incredible venues I wanted to keep this list to a smaller area.
This list is a combination of some of my personal favourites. Some of them I've had the pleasure to work at and others are on my bucket list so if you're getting married there I bet we would be awesome friends and if you want to say hi I'll jump up and down for joy! This list is in no specific order, because there is no way I could try and assign the a number to rank them, they are all amazing in their own ways and are all #1 in my book!
Fairmont Hotel MacDonald is located in the heart of downtown and is an elegant and magical location to celebrate a wedding. Some of the perks of getting married here is hotel rooms to spend the night and for getting ready, ceremony and photography locations all in one venue. You can also go on a short walk and utilize some more amazing city and river valley views. For couples, vendors and guests not having to get in the car and travel anywhere during the day makes things so easy! And for out of town guests they can also spend the night and enjoy the wedding without worrying about transportation. And for any in town guests transit or cabs are incredibly easy to access and makes the party even more fun when no one is worried about who is going to drive. With a variety of different rooms available for both ceremonies and receptions there is a capacity of up to 350 guests for small or large weddings. This also makes a wonderful wedding location all year round. So if you want a beautiful winter wedding you can stay cozy and warm all day while you celebrate! And while you do need to utilize the venues catering for your food it is incredible! If you want a magical downtown wedding this is a fantastic spot!
Fairmont Hotel MacDonald
Always Occasions is located in Manchester Square in Edmonton. It provides a moody and romantic venue for wedding ceremonies, receptions and photo locations. Unlike many other venues the entire square highlights enticing architecture. With beautiful colours and textures throughout it makes a truly fantastic location for a wedding, especially in the winter time when Edmonton can be cold, snowy and lacking vibrant colours and textures outside. Always Occasions also provides planning services for a magical and stress-free day. With a seating capacity of 75 for dinner it is the perfect spot for an intimate and romantic wedding with your closest family and friends.

The Enjoy Centre is located in St. Albert It was designed by e3 architecture as a year-round oasis. The building is all about connecting the indoor to the outdoor. It is the perfect venue if you want an outdoor feel but don't want to worry about rain or snow at any time of year. It features 2 different event spaces, the Glasshouse Kitchen space can host events up for 120 people and the Moonflower Room is a very large space able to host up to 650 people. This is a unique and spectacular venue, especially if you've ever dreamed of getting married in a greenhouse! The venue can provide bar service but you'll need to bring in a caterer. And due to the nature of the venue any live flowers and plants must be sourced with the venue to prevent any cross contamination to their plant life.

Sparrow Lane Events is located 25 minutes southwest of Edmonton, about 10 minutes west of U of A Botanic Gardens / Devon, AB. This gem is another space open all year round for weddings in every season! It is a very crisp, clean, stylish and upscale vibe with lots of indoor and outdoor spaces. And of course they have a gorgeous bridal suite for a fun and relaxing morning of getting ready. This is a stand out venue for sure! They have a capacity of 192 and being located on a large property they do have hotel and shuttle partners as an option for guest transportation. And if you're looking for more full service they do have in-house coordination available as well! When I think of this space I picture white gloves, champagne towers, pearls and french macarons. These are absolutely not a requirement to get married here but this is the picture I have painted in my head.

Obsidian Ridge is located on a large property 30 minutes from southeast Edmonton. Here you'll find uniquely designed spaces throughout the property for your entire day from getting ready suites, ceremony amphitheatre, photos opportunities throughout, receptions tent and overnight camping. There is nothing else like this anywhere else, so if you want something special you're sure to find it here! Open for weddings from June to October with a capacity 200 guests this venue is made for celebrating and enjoying the beauty and nature of the outdoors. This space is the best of nature and elegant design so whether your dream is a high end and elegant wedding or a free-spirited bohemian relaxed wedding this space can elevate and emphasize your dream wedding.

River's Edge is located in Devon, Alberta which is about 20 minutes from southwest Edmonton and is open to host weddings in the spring, summer and fall. It offers ceremony space overlooking the river and a unique dome tent for receptions. River's Edge is close to Devon campground and can help coordinate a free shuttle for guests to Fairfield by Marriott Hotel. They also offer day of wedding coordination to make sure your event runs smoothly! This spacious venue has a capacity of 250 so you can celebrate with all of your family and friends. This venue also features a variety of photo locations including a bridal suite for getting ready, a twinkle light barn as well as walking trails, river views, natural landscapes and vegetation. If you want the most unique outdoor tent wedding around this is the spot for you! Imagine getting married with a view and dancing under the stars.

Zeidler Dome at Telus World of Science is a standout venue! It is the most unique and epic venue I've had the pleasure to work at. So I bet you're thinking.. so why didn't it make the list? This was such a hard one for me but I ended up giving it a special mention and not including it on my list only because it is a ceremony only venue. If Telus had an option to host receptions as well this space would be a no brainer! But if you choose to have your ceremony here you'll need to book your reception venue separately. If you do choose to get married here it has a capacity of up to 200, they provide sound/microphones and your choice of night sky display so you can choose from a twinkling sky, northern lights, the milky way, Saturn's rings and more. If you want to really have fun with it you can even have the death star!
